The Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana in Natchitoches, La., has received a $75,000 grant to develop a cooking program that will help kids learn how to cook healthier foods, the Times-Picayune reports.
The project is one of seven grants totaling $1.2 million awarded by the Rapides Foundation this month to groups that aim to "prevent and control tobacco use, prevent and reduce obesity, or prevent substance and alcohol use in the region," according to a press release.
The grants were awarded to the club, Campti Community Development Center, the Cottonport Mayor's Commission for Women, Food Bank of Central Louisiana, Louisiana Christian University, the Town of Bunkie, and the YWCA Alexandria-Pineville.
"With this initiative, youth can use the kitchen to gain skills and learn about cooking and increase physical activity through the Triple Play/Healthy Habits program," the press release says.
